“Faqih” (a mosque imam) admitted the charges against him of raping 6 underage girls in a village outside Tangier, in northern Morocco, amid investigations by authorities after Complaints were received from the families of the victims.
According to Moroccan media, lawyer Abdel Moneim Al-Rifai revealed that “Faqih Al-Zamij” admitted Tangier’s appeal to the Public Ministry on Saturday, explicitly for all his acts related to the rape of several minors.
The lawyer added, in a press release, after the hearing before the Public Ministry, that the court detained the suspect based on a complaint from the victims, who so far were 6 minors, in a village in the Malusa community.
It indicated that the Public Ministry referred the case to the investigating judge in the same court, where the suspect interrogated in the framework of the preliminary interrogation, and decided to postpone the detailed interrogation session until October 6, 2020, so that the victims and their Guardians can be heard, and it is possible that he will face the accused and the six complainants.
The imam, suspected of raping several minors, faces charges of “serious crime of assault on the honor of a minor with violence under the age of 18, with defamation of virginity and abuse of religious authority.
This comes after the authorities arrested the alleged imam based on a complaint of indecent assault of a minor that the family of one of the victims presented to the Tangier General Prosecutor’s Office, accompanied by a medical certificate confirming the loss of the virginity of the minor, which confirms that she was the object of sexual assault.
