Today, Thursday, Saudi Football Club Al Hilal issued an official statement in response to its exclusion from the AFC Champions League and the cancellation of its results in this edition.
On Wednesday, the AFC decided to consider Al Hilal a loser in its match against Al-Ahly youth in Dubai, and excluded him from the Asian competition, for failing to submit a roster of a minimum of 13 players, as stipulated by the laws of the AFC.
Al-Hilal responded to his exclusion with a statement published on his Twitter account, in which he said: “The Board of Directors of the Al-Hilal Club wishes to clarify to all the club’s fans and the sports community, the conditions it is going through the mission of the team competing in the 2020 AFC Champions League competition, following the outbreak. Coronavirus cases, and the number of infected cases in the mission reached more than 30 cases, among players and members of technical and administrative bodies.
The statement added: “The board of directors emphasized from the beginning that continuing the championship despite these difficult circumstances was based on two principles, the first of which was the incessant search with all the strength that the club has been given to contribute to raise the flag of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in foreign sports forums, and translate what you enjoy. The sports industry relies on wise leadership and interest, and the other principle is to achieve the aspirations of Crescent fans to continue and do double duty to make them happy and make them proud of their team, whatever the circumstances.
In his statement, Al-Hilal confirmed that all his attempts to continue the tournament had met with opposition from the AFC, despite the existence of compelling circumstances that required greater flexibility to assess the situation, as well as the difference in the interpretation of the tournament regulations.
The statement revealed that changing the tournament system completely due to the Corona pandemic is the same reason why the club demanded to reschedule its matches, due to the lack of a quorum of 13 players due to Corona cases.
The statement confirmed that the club’s management will file a complaint against the AFC, explaining: “The board of directors is considering submitting a protest note to the judicial authorities, in order to preserve the rights of the club before the competent official authorities.
“The Board of Directors expresses its pride in the great responsibility that the Al Hilal players have felt since the first case of injury in the team, and their urgent desire to represent their country in the foreign forum in the best way to represent and defend its Asian title, “the statement concluded.
