Doubts surround the ability of Ayman Ashraf, defender of the Al-Ahly club’s first soccer team, to claim his team’s match against Moroccan Wydad Casablanca on Saturday in the first leg of the African Champions League semi-finals.

The player continues to qualify in his training at Al-Ahly, according to sources inside the Al-Ahly club, his injury was not found in the calf and that he will be ready to face the Moroccan team next Saturday.

The source confirmed that Ashraf will return to team group training no later than Tuesday, after recovering from pain in his calf muscle.

There is no player in the center of defense on Al-Ahly’s roster to face the Pyramids today except Yasser Ibrahim.

In Enppi’s match, South African Pitso Musimani relied on Ayman Ashraf and Mohamed Hani’s double as the heart of the defense, then Ashraf came out through injury and Hamdi Fathi, the defending midfielder, was at the center of defense.

During the last period, Rami Rabiaa suffered a muscle injury that confirmed his absence from the Moroccan Al-Ahly and Wydad matches on October 17 and 24, and two months ago Mahmoud Metwally suffered a cut in his cruciate ligament when he was absent from the stadium until April next year, in addition to the lack of preparation of Saad Samir, who injured his Achilles tendon.

Ashraf’s absence from the Wydad showdown will constitute a major defensive crisis for Musimani with Al-Ahly in light of the limited defensive elements available to play the important African match in Casablanca.
