The Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris, through his official account on the site “Twitter”, published a post that sparked widespread controversy among the pioneers of the famous social networking site, as Egypt’s most famous businessman asked the Egyptian government to issued a decision banning “window” air conditioners.
Sawiris said in a text: “A decision must be made to prevent window-type air conditioners from building facades! Are all old buildings deformed?”
Bassem Mamdouh Amin’s account commented, saying: “Who is the ban, oh engineering. In the days of downtown, it was not adopted. The story is not in the condition, engineering, a respectable artist can examine the situation and be correct. ”
The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Merchants Division of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce says that demand for air conditioners during the current season has decreased by at least 50% compared to last year, despite the high temperature during the current period, due to rumors that air conditioners transmit the new Corona virus.
According to Forbes magazine, Naguib Sawiris was ranked ninth on Forbes’ list of the richest people in Africa for 2020, with a fortune of $ 3 billion and at the age of 65.
He made a fortune investing in telecommunications, selling Orascom Telecom in 2011 to Russian telecommunications company VimpelCom (now Veon) in a multi-million dollar deal.
He is the chairman of the board of directors of Orascom “TMT” Investment, which has interests in a major asset manager in Egypt and in an Italian Internet company, among others.
La Mancha Holdings has interests in Evolution Mining, Endeavor Mining and Golden Star Resources, which operate gold mines in Africa and Australia.
Sawiris is the majority owner of Euronews and has also developed a luxury complex called Silversands in Granada.
