A private plane takes Al-Ahly to Niger … and Amir Tawfiq travels

The Al-Ahly club announced that the team will travel to Niger to face Sonideb in their opening match of the new edition of the 2020/2021 African Champions League competition by private plane.

“The board of directors approved Al-Ahly’s mission to travel to Niger by private plane,” Sherif Fouad, official spokesman for the Al-Ahly club, said in televised remarks broadcast on Al-Ahly channel Tuesday night.

He added: “There were travel flights available, but the board wanted to provide a private plane so that the players were fully focused before playing the game.”

The African champions will meet the Nigerian champions on December 23 in the first leg of the 32nd match of the African Champions League.

Al-Ahly will leave for Cairo next Friday on his way to Niger, after Ghazl El Mahalla’s match in the second round of the Egyptian Premier League championship.

Sonidep’s team had beaten Mogadishu, Somalia, in the preliminary round of the tournament, with a score (2-0) on aggregate.

The reunion back in Egypt is scheduled for January 5-6.

Al-Ahly won the CAF Champions League title during the latest version, after beating Zamalek in the final match, to escalate to the Club World Cup, to be played in early February 2021.

For his part, Sherif Fouad announced that Al-Ahly’s board of directors has assigned Amir Tawfiq, Al-Ahly’s director of recruitment and marketing, to travel to the United Arab Emirates to coordinate with Umbro the selection of the team for the team FIFA Club World Cup football.

Fouad indicated that the board of directors decided to immediately initiate procedures to declare the Al-Ahly Football Management Society.
