The Liverpool club announced today, Thursday, that team defender Joe Gomez has undergone a tendon operation in his left knee after the injury he suffered while with his country, England.
The English Premier League champion posted an official statement on his official website, announcing that his central defender had suffered a tendon injury in his left knee.
The 23-year-old is ready to start a rehab program with the Reds’ medical team, as no timetable has been set for his return.
The Liverpool statement indicated that Gomez is likely to be ruled out for much of this season (2020-2021) due to injury, to deal another blow to his coach Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool suffer a series of injuries that hit the team in the final period, led by defender Virgil van Dyck, who suffered a cut to his cruciate ligament.
Brazilian Fabinho and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold are also absent, along with midfielder duo Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.
Klopp has few elements on the defensive end thanks to the presence of Cameroonian Joel Matip and young couple Nathaniel Phillips and Reese Williams.
Liverpool are currently in third place in the Premier League table with 17 points, on goal difference with Tottenham Hotspur and one point behind leaders Leicester City.
Liverpool are scheduled to resume Premier League matches on the 21st of this month when the Leicester City team faces a match to be played at Anfield.
When it comes to the UEFA Champions League, Liverpool top the Group D standings by winning the first three games.
