The Ramadan fast breakfast is usually completed with the pickled dish that many adore, but how harmful is it to health?
Dr. Nahla Messaoud, a therapeutic nutrition consultant, emphasized the need to avoid irritable bowel, heart, blood pressure, kidney, liver and kidney patients foods that are high in salt, such as pickles, because they absorb water from the body and cannot replace the normal amount the next day during the fasting period.
He explained to “Masrawy” that the adequate daily quantity of pickles is a maximum of two or three pieces at breakfast, to guarantee the health and safety of the pickle, and to do it at home to guarantee its quality.
He noted that other alternatives to the portal are the ideal solution for a special Ramadan Iftar, such as regular salads, potato Ghanouj or yogurt salad with cucumbers or tahini, as long as they do not contain a high percentage of salts.
He noted that the damage caused by pickling can affect the organs of the digestive system by poisoning, and the greatest damage occurs to patients with heart disease, since it increases the speed of attacks and can even lead to stroke and arteriosclerosis. . It causes swelling in the legs, ankles, feet, and hands.
He added: “Salts can also cause a congestive drop in the heart muscle, and therefore prevent the pumping of blood to the organs, resulting in the difficulty of eliminating fluids in the body that cause dropsy in the stomach.”
