The US newspaper “Washington Post” said Jordanian authorities arrested Jordan’s former crown prince, King Abdullah II’s half-brother, Prince Hamzah bin Hussein and prominent former officials, accused of threatening the country’s stability, after who planned a plot to “overthrow the king.”

The “Washington Post” stated that this step came as a result of the discovery of what palace officials described as a “complex and long-term conspiracy” involving at least one member of the Jordanian royal family, as well as leaders. tribals and members of the country’s security establishment.
“Additional arrests are expected,” said the intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, referring to “security sensitivities surrounding the ongoing police operation.”
A Jordanian adviser for minors confirmed that the arrests were made against the backdrop of “a threat to the stability of the country.”
Prince Hamzah served as Crown Prince of Jordan for four years before the title was transferred to the eldest son of the current Jordanian monarch, King Hussein.
The intelligence official said: “Jordanian army officers informed Hamzah of his arrest and arrived at his home with guards, even as the other arrests continued.” Widespread arrests have also been reported on Jordanian social media.
The intelligence official described the plan as “well organized.” He said the conspirators appeared to have “external relationships”, although he did not elaborate.
Jordanian security authorities have arrested former prominent officials for security reasons, including Basem Ibrahim Awadallah, a former head of the royal court, and Sharif Hassan bin Zaid, the king’s former special envoy to Saudi Arabia.
