This occurred in a statement issued by the Suez Canal Authority this morning, as part of the monitoring of the rescue work and the procedures to float the ship from the accident site.
The authority holder sent a message of reassurance about the navigation movement in the canal and its regularity again along the course of the original canal, highlighting that the Suez Canal does not spare any effort to guarantee the regularity of navigation and service. of global commercial traffic.
According to the statement, the accident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, due to the lack of horizontal visibility due to bad weather conditions due to the passage of the country by a dust storm, since the wind speed reached 40 knots, which caused loss of capacity. to steer the ship and its beach.
Immediately after the accident, the Authority formed a Crisis Management Committee under the direction of the President of the Authority. Current rescue operations are carried out through the Authority’s Movements Department using 8 locomotives, especially the Baraka 1 with a tensile strength of 160 tons.
It is worth mentioning that the Panamanian container ship EVER GIVEN follows the EVER GREEN shipping line, and the ship is 400 meters long, 59 meters wide and has a total tonnage of 224 thousand tons.
