Sudan announced its reservation to participate in the tripartite ministerial meeting between Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia on the filling and operation of the Renaissance dam, which took place on Monday, according to the Sudan news agency.
Sudan’s Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources stated, in a statement released today, that based on the results of the tripartite ministerial meeting held on Sunday, Sudan submitted a request to hold a bilateral meeting with experts and observers from the African Union, that same night, and Sudan did not receive a response to their request, but instead received Sudan requested the continuation of direct tripartite negotiations, prompting Sudan to reserve its participation, affirming its firm position on the need to give a role to the experts of the African Union to facilitate the negotiation and rapprochement between the three parties.
The Ministry affirmed its commitment to the negotiation process, under the auspices of the African Union, in application of the principle of African solutions to African problems, provided that experts play a more effective role in facilitating the negotiations.
