There is a conflict between the narratives that narrate what happened in the isolation department of Al Husseiniya Central Hospital in Sharkia governorate, as people confirm the death of Corona patients in the intensive care room due to lack of oxygen, while that the hospital and the Ministry of Health deny the cause of death.

Amid the controversy, Al-Masry Al-Youm probed the testimonies of medical personnel to detect one side of the truth.

Social media circulated a video clip showing the panic prevailing among the families of those injured in the Al-Husayniyeh isolation and medical staff alike, following the death of carefully wounded patients in the isolation building of Al Hussainiya Hospital. in Sharkia.

4 deaths in two hours

In special remarks to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Dr. Youssef Al-Shahat, an emergency deputy with isolation care at Al-Hussainiya Hospital, said the cases died within two hours, as the first case died exactly at 7:40, and the fourth case died at 10:30, but this does not mean Certainly, lack of oxygen is behind the deaths.

He added that the oxygen was less, and yet it was enough for a whole day, but people gathered in front of the oxygen tank after the death of the second case at exactly eight o’clock yesterday night, and they kept pouring water on the ice blocks above the oxygen tubes thinking that this would help their families and increase the flow of oxygen to the room. watch out.

Al-Shahat confirmed that the medical staff informed the hospital management of the lack of oxygen at exactly 6 p.m., two hours before the death of the first case, and at that time the central reservoir index was 400, and “This is enough for a whole day.”

The testimony of the son of one of the victims

For his part, Ahmed Al-Jizawi, son of one of the deceased cases, said that people informed the hospital administration of the lack of oxygen at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, but the oxygen delivery vehicle did not arrived until exactly ten o’clock after the deaths occurred.

“Al-Jizawi” confirmed the same story that “Al-Shahat” told about people gathering in the tank of oxygen cylinders to dismantle the blocks of snow that were piling up on the cylinders, leading to the administration from the hospital to inform the police, as supplies were arriving and two patrols followed them to secure the medical personnel.

Isolation of the Husseinieh

The official version

For his part, Dr. Muhammad Abdulaziz Al-Ramadi, deputy director of the hospital, denied Al-Masry Al-Youm the circulating accounts of the death of the injured due to lack of oxygen.

Al-Ramadi added: “We have alternative plans in case the central tank, which has a capacity of 8,000 liters, runs out. We can rely on Plan B, which consists of using an oxygen reserve to supply the public tank, with 26 spare cylinders, with a pumping capacity of 800 liters, which is an operational capacity. It is sufficient for a period of at least 12 hours, and Plan C is to rely on portable oxygen tubes.

“Al-Ramadi” defended the hospital, saying that the oxygen network at Al-Hussainiya Hospital is a central network that pumps out the isolation building and four other departments, and that the hospital has 20 nurseries and 121 care beds, all they depend on the central oxygen tank. “If there were a crisis due to lack of oxygen, the same would happen in the four sections.”

In the presence of a portable oxygen tube in the isolation care room, according to the circulating video, and the reason why the isolation care doctor uses Plan (C) if the oxygen pump is stable, he said : “There are cases that require special care, but this case is 88 years old. A year ago, it is evident that his death ».

As for the indicator of the oxygen pumping rate, which people used to check the severe lack of pumping, the deputy director of the hospital justified that it is normal because the photograph was taken upon arrival of the oxygen supply vehicle of the Directorate of Salud de la Gobernación, explaining: “The indicator is witnessing a decrease during pumping, but there is a difference in the rate of pumping Oxygen in the indicator and amount of oxygen delivered to the patient.”
