Egypt contracts 100 million doses of “Corona” vaccine

Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed said that her country had contracted 100 million doses of Corona virus vaccines through different companies.

He added, during an intervention in the MBC Egypt program, that the contracted vaccines include 40 million doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, 20 million doses of AstraZeneca, which can be increased, and 40 million doses of the Gavi alliance.

He indicated that this figure would be enough for about 50 million people, which is equivalent to almost half of the population.

The minister stated that funds are available for the purchase of vaccines and Vaxira is currently negotiating the local manufacture of the Corona virus vaccine.

He revealed that the AstraZeneca vaccine will begin to supply it during the third or fourth week of this month, and that negotiations with the company are in their final stages after the approval of the Medicines Authority and the Council of Ministers in the technical and financial needs, and financial needs to purchase Corona vaccines from multiple companies have been met.

Zayed indicated that an agreement was reached with the AstraZeneca company to supply 20 million doses of the Corona vaccine, which could be increased.

He said that the Egyptian Medicines Authority yesterday agreed to license the Chinese Sinopharma vaccine for emergency use in Egypt, and that it signed last week with the Chinese ambassador in Cairo to supply 40 million doses of Sinopharma vaccine, as well as to manufacture it to through Vaxira.

And on the possibility of reaching an agreement with Pfizer to use its vaccine in Egypt, Zayed said that the ministry is still negotiating with the global company Pfizer about its vaccine, and that he held meetings a few days ago with representatives of Fires America, Dubai and Egypt in the presence of the scientific committee that oversees the fight against the Corona virus and representatives of the Purchasing and Medicines Authority for consultation. On the company’s supply of vaccines, what measures will be taken after the company’s financial offer.

He revealed that the coronavirus vaccine will not be free for everyone, as the Long Live Egypt Fund will bear the cost for people who cannot, and will be linked to systems of solidarity and dignity, adding: “It does not need to be free for all ”. Those who can buy the vaccine will pay for it as long as they have the ability to buy it.

The minister mentioned that vaccines against the Corona virus will be carried out periodically later, as well as vaccines against seasonal influenza.
