Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, inaugurated on Saturday the tomb of King Ramses I, the ancient Valley of the Kings in the continental west of Luxor, after completing its restoration, during his tour of the city, accompanied by Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

“Waziri” claimed that the restoration work included restoring floors and cleaning the walls of bird and bat remains, as well as restoring and cleaning existing inscriptions and removing soot.

The tomb was discovered in 1817 by Giovanni Belzoni. The tomb is 29 meters long and is a short corridor ending with a burial stone containing a granite sarcophagus.

Among the most important scenes are on the left wall of the burial chamber, where the view of the Book of Gates is shown, and another scene depicting the king kneeling before the spirits of Nakhon, Bi, and Hieraknopolis. The king’s mummy is exhibited in the Luxor Museum in the Hall of Glory in Thebes.

Ramses I was a deputy of the army in the era of Horemheb, and his wife Sat Ra, and was called Bari Masu, then founded the XIX Dynasty in the period 1292-1290 BC. C.
