The WhatsApp application will stop working on smartphones with operating systems prior to iOS 9 and Android 4.0.3 as of January 1, 2021.

Phones that don’t run Android 4.0.3 will lose access to “WhatsApp”, and these models include HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black, Motorola Droid Razr, and Samsung Galaxy S2, among other models that were released around 2012.
