Dr. Hisham Abdel Dayem, dean of the National Liver Institute in Shebin Al-Kom, said 4-year-old Layla was transferred to the intensive care room after the operation and her health deteriorated until her death. death, and noted that the mother’s operation lasted 8 hours, while the girl has around 11 continuous hours until a lobe of liver donated by her mother is implanted.
In recent weeks, requests for blood donations for the operation have been made on social media, in solidarity with the 4-year-old girl, Lily, and her 30-year-old mother, Walaa.
Lily’s baby was born with cirrhosis, and her journey began with treatment days after birth, and the doctors decided to perform a liver transplant after the girl turned 4 years old, and the mother tested her to donate to her son a part of the liver affected by cirrhosis.
Invitations to donate blood for the benefit of the operation were spread on social media pages, and citizens interacted with the invitations, until the donations exceeded the need for the operation and reached about 100 bags of blood.
