Today, Saturday, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from President Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa.
Ambassador Bassam Rady, spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that the contact addressed the discussions and exchange of views on the evolution of the issue of the Renaissance dam in the framework of the relevant tripartite negotiations under the auspices of the African Union led by South Africa.
The president reaffirmed the constants of Egypt’s position on the imperative to formulate a binding legal agreement that includes the three countries, and an agreement that preserves Egypt’s water rights by defining the rules for the filling and operation of the dam, in the context of the existential issue of the waters of the Nile for Egypt and its people, and expressed sincere appreciation for the efforts of President Ramaphosa in this context.
President Ramaphosa expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in the framework of the negotiation path aimed at reaching a solution to the problem, and highlighted the continuation of the intense coordination between the two countries during the next period to work to achieve a fair and balanced agreement on this vital issue.
The Spokesperson added that the convocation also addressed some of the issues of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as the two presidents affirmed their aspiration to exploit the broad prospects of strengthening the fraternal relations between Egypt and South Africa at the bilateral, continental and international levels. , given that the two countries have an important political weight that serves African interests as a whole.
