The Olympic Committee issued a clarifying statement on the decision it took today, Saturday, to suspend the celebration of all closed-room tournaments.

The text of the committee statement was as follows.

“In the context of the responsibility and eagerness of the Egyptian Olympic Committee to continue the sports season and complete it in complete safety and complete the implementation of the training plans for all games with full consideration for the safety of the players and the administrative apparatus and technician in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic so that his technical level is not affected, in addition to being careful not to waste public money that was used to support sports federations to implement the preparation and training plans of the players.
And he added: With reference to the tournaments that will be held inside the closed pavilions, and for further clarification and response to multiple queries from those involved in this, we clarify the following:
The Egyptian Olympic Committee affirms that the objective of the decision that the Olympic Committee took today is to continue with the celebration of sports tournaments that take place in closed pavilions, but with full consideration of applying the precautionary measures as previously established last month of June to resume sports activity in the face of the Corona virus pandemic and not The intention is to cancel the celebration of sports tournaments held in closed halls
Rather, the main intention is to emphasize that sports federations fulfill their role and responsibilities in this regard, with the need to fully adhere to precautionary measures after noticing that there is some failure in the application of precautionary measures during the organization of some sports tournaments held inside closed pavilions, which is considered a threat to the lives of athletes in light of The outbreak of the new Corona virus, the last of which was the injury of the Olympic champion Gianna Farouk, player of the national karate team and qualified for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, which practices playing and training in closed halls.
From this point of view, the Olympic Committee saw in reality its responsibility specifically stipulated in Code No. 2 of the medical codes of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which stipulated the following controls for the return of activity in sports federations
The first stage: training and competitions
The start of the training activity for contact sports and games from July 1, 2020.
The second stage: contact games
Trainings from July 1, 2020
Competitions starting August 1, 2020
According to the vision of each federation and the decision of the Egyptian Olympic or Paralympic Committee
And according to the nature of each game, the place of practice and the degree of contact
This period includes the precautionary measures that must be followed, and each federation has the responsibility to implement the precautionary measures and the resulting effects (Attached Code No. 2)
And in accordance with the Book of the Ministry of Youth and Sports No. 3709 dated 06/18/2020 (Annex 2) regarding a request for circulation of precautionary measures and medical codes to sports federations to carry out their responsibilities in strict adherence to the application of all precautionary and preventive measures to maintain the health and safety of players during sports activities.
The need to emphasize that these championships are not held except for an official commitment of the sports federations to follow the precautionary measures in accordance with the medical codes of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which were established to resume sports activity during the month of June, in the face of the Corona virus pandemic.
The Egyptian Olympic Committee states that sports championships will not be held for various sports, except in light of adherence to these codes and precautionary measures, in the context of ensuring the safety of Egyptian athletes and workers in the field of sport, including administrators and technicians.
Forcing sports federations not to hold their championships until after the preparation of a detailed medical report that includes all precautionary measures and the plan followed in their implementation, provided that this report is approved by the president of the federation’s medical committee and the president of the federation.
Finally, the Egyptian Olympic Committee calls on all sports federations to fully adhere to all precautionary measures and medical codes, and not to violate them or be complacent in the implementation of any of their provisions, in the interest of the safety and health of Egyptian athletes who are considered the national wealth of our beloved Egypt.
