Imprisonment of people accused of spreading fake news about “the economy and the Corona virus”

The State Security Prosecutor decided to imprison two defendants for accusing them of publishing false news about the state aimed at disturbing public order.

The investigations revealed that the defendants, “JR” and “MA”, intentionally spread false news about the economic situation in the country and the spread of the “Corona” virus in the country.

The Prosecutor’s Office assigned the accused the charges of belonging to a group constituted in violation of the provisions of the law, whose purpose is to request the suspension of the provisions of the constitution and the laws and to prevent state institutions and public authorities from carrying out their work, and committing various crimes, including the publication of false news about the political and economic conditions of the country with the intention of disturbing the public peace within the framework of the group’s goals. The Brotherhood, and furthering the group’s objectives aimed at undermining trust in the Egyptian state and its institutions.

The prosecution attributed the defendants to having committed crimes of joining a terrorist group with the aim of disrupting public order, endangering the safety and security of society, harming people or sowing terror among them, putting endanger their lives, liberties or security, or disrupt the application of the constitution, laws or regulations, receive financing for terrorist purposes and participate in a criminal settlement intended to commit a terrorist offense
