Places to isolate children … “Higher University Hospitals” issues a decision

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, chaired yesterday evening, Wednesday, the emergency meeting of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, in the presence of Dr. Hussam Abdel Ghaffar, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Hospitals University students and official spokesperson for the Ministry, using the “videoconference” technique.

The Council decided during the meeting as follows:

1- Restart of all isolation university hospitals, totaling 25 university hospitals, with a capacity of 2,377 beds in internal departments, in addition to 523 intensive care beds and 418 ventilators, provided that capacity is increased as needed.

2- Emphasis on providing places of isolation for children.

3- Emphasize the existence of isolation departments with adequate capacity in all university hospitals other than university hospitals that are fully designated for isolation.

4- Adoption of the treatment protocol prepared by the Supreme Committee for Respiratory Viruses in coordination with the Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Health and Population.

5- Emphasize the availability of medicines, supplies and personal condoms for all university hospitals, equivalent to consuming two months in advance.

6- University hospitals continue to fulfill their role in receiving cases on the waiting list.

7- Full coordination with the directorates of the Ministry of Health and Population and health matters in all the provinces.

During the meeting, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the importance of having isolation sites within hospitals that are not fully designated for isolation, and the minister asked to follow the treatment protocols issued by the Council’s Supreme Virus Committee. Supremo de Hospitales Universitarios in cooperation with the Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Health and Population in relation to cases infected by the emerging coronavirus.

The minister pointed out the need to share experiences among isolation doctors in all hospitals, develop the information of the cases and analyze them to produce all the information that contributes to providing better medical care, and the minister also referred to the work to provide all medical supplies, drugs and oxygen up to two months in the future in all university hospitals, and coordination with the Ministry of Health and Population and the health directorates of the governorates on the number of infected cases and available medical equipment.

The minister agreed to seek the help of medical personnel from other specialties after they were trained to treat corona cases.

The minister also pledged during the meeting to solve the obstacles related to bonuses for medical personnel and follow up on humanitarian cases that require intervention, highlighting that the participation of medical teams to face the repercussions of the Coronavirus is a “national duty” .
