The draw for the Spanish Super Cup, which was held on Thursday, with the participation of four teams according to the new system in force since last season, resulted in a possible Clásico in the final match.
This year’s edition will feature the participation of two teams different from last season’s version, together with Real Madrid and Barcelona (champions and runners-up in the League), Real Sociedad and Athletic de Bilbao (cup finalists).
The semifinal draw resulted in the following clashes:
Barcelona – Real Sociedad (to be held next January 13 in Córdoba).
Real Madrid x Athletic Bilbao (to be held on January 14 in Malaga).
The final will be played on the 17th of the same month in Seville.
According to the newspaper “Fútbol España”, before the draw a condition was imposed to avoid the celebration of a Classic between Barcelona and Real Madrid in the semifinals, so that the two poles of Spanish football would be classified at the first level, and Bilbao and Real Sociedad on the second level.
