The Pakistani president issued an anti-rape decree that includes the penalty for chemical castration and the establishment of special courts to quickly hear and decide rape cases.
On Tuesday, the presidential decree stipulated that the bill would go into effect, according to DW.
A statement said it was approved by Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.
It takes the government four months to obtain mandatory approval from parliament for the bill to become law.
The law is seen as an embodiment of the height of anger after a mother was gang-raped in front of her children on one of the country’s main highways earlier this year, and the rape and victim blame for a Prominent police officer sparked protests and calls for a new law to ensure perpetrators are punished … and the leading Criminal justice system in Pakistan is complicated by a shortage of rape convictions.
Two suspects in connection with the rape case were arrested on the road. Under the new law, government agencies will have to maintain a database of criminals and the courts will have to ensure that trials are completed within four months of the date of the crime.
