Majid Al Owais, a member of the board of directors of Al Ain FC’s soccer company, spoke about Togolese forward Laba Kodjo.
Al Owais said, in response to Laba Kodjo’s upcoming departure: “Does the current situation of the team allow us to leave Laba Kodjo? Certainly the situation does not allow it.”
“Last season, Laba Kodjo was the top scorer in the league and considered him the best player of the season,” he added in his comments on Al Ain TV.
He revealed: “We spoke with Laba Kodjo to extend his contract for two years and the player did not care and his agent also thanked him.”
He went on to say: “Laba Codjo is a famous player in Africa, and there was more than one team willing to sign him, including Al-Ahly from Egypt.”
And about the reports that came out claiming that the player had injured him to leave, Al-Owais replied: “I was present at the last training session and the player was training normally, but the day before the match, he was unable to walk at all.”
He explained: “The player suffered from pain in his ankle, and although this was not noticeable in the X-ray that was done to the player, he was in pain.”
And he stressed, “I trust the player and I trust that he does not claim injury or evade because he is an honest player and if he wants something, he talks to the club.”
He concluded: “If I am a footballer and I receive an offer from Al-Ahly or any other team, I speak with the club and so on. And Laba Kudjo tells us something, and that is why what is said is not true and those statements abound when the team is going through difficult circumstances. “
Al Ain is sixth in the league standings with 15 points from 9 games, while Sharjah is on top with 23 points.
