On Thursday, an Italian court upheld a nine-year prison sentence for veteran Brazilian international striker Robinho for raping a woman in 2013 while he was a Milan player.

The judges of the Milan appeals court confirmed the 2017 ruling, in absentia, against Robinho and one of his friends, on charges of mass sexual violence, dating back to January 2013.

The television channel “Globo Sports” published excerpts from a recording that Italian prosecutors used to secure Robinho’s conviction, in which the player states “I’m laughing because I don’t care. The woman was completely drunk, she doesn’t even know what what happened”.

Robinho and his friend were part of a group of six men accused of participating in the gang rape of a 22-year-old Albanian woman in a Milan nightclub.

The court ordered the former “samba” player and his companion to pay compensation to the woman, who was the subject of the case jointly, amounting to 60,000 euros, while the remaining four people were prevented from trial.

Robinho, 36, who has denied the charges, has the right to appeal the ruling again within 90 days.

Brazilian club Santos was forced to terminate its contract with Robinho recently, under pressure on the team for the Brazilian star’s conviction.

Robinho began his football career in Santos in 2002, joined Real Madrid in 2005, then played for Manchester City from 2008 to 2010 and Milan for four years until 2014, and also played in China with Gwangju Evergrande, with Atlético Minero. , Brazil and Basak. Turkish shahir.
