The Cairo International Film Festival affirmed its full respect for women and rejected all forms of violence against them, including harassment.

The festival said in a statement on Tuesday: “During the last hours we have been following with interest what has been reported about the director of one of the films in international competition, and although the allegations leveled against this director are not confirmed and have not yet been verified, the festival, in order to ward off suspicions, promises that if there are, they are tested. Based on the testimonies presented against it, or the official communications against it that confirm the authenticity of the incident, the film will be excluded from competing in international competition.

And he added, “Until that happens, the festival is committed to showing the film on the dates announced in advance, so that the experience and its filmmakers are not subjected to injustice, as well as out of respect for the public who reserved the tickets.”

A girl is reported to have testified Monday about the principal’s harassment and attempted rape.
