English-language Iranian Press TV said the weapon used to kill Iran’s top nuclear scientist last week was “made in Israel.”
The channel quoted an unidentified source on Monday as saying that “the weapon collected at the site of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh’s murder” bears the slogan and specifications of the Israeli military industry.
The Iranian Defense Ministry also claimed that it had reached “new leads” regarding the identity of the perpetrators and that the information “will be released very soon,” according to Press TV.
Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency said on Sunday that Fakhri Zadeh was killed with an “automatic machine gun” operating with a remote control device.
Fakhrizadeh, who Israel claims was the architect of an Iranian program to make a nuclear bomb, was killed in an ambush on a highway near Tehran on Friday.
Senior Iranian officials have vowed to avenge the murder of the prominent nuclear scientist.
Iranian officials accused Israel of being behind the murder.
This is not the first time Tehran has pointed an accusing finger at Israel. He accused him of killing several Iranian nuclear scientists since 2010.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declined to comment on the assassination of Fakhrizadeh, who was head of the Development and Innovation Organization at the Iranian Defense Ministry.
Israeli Intelligence Minister Eli Cohen said in a radio statement on Monday that he did not know who was responsible for the incident.
Iranian state television said Fakhrizadeh would be buried Monday in a cemetery north of Tehran.
The coffin, draped in the Iranian flag, was displayed at a memorial service held at the Defense Ministry, attended by only dozens of senior military commanders and the Fakhri Zadeh family, due to precautions to prevent the Corona virus.
“The enemies know, and as a soldier, I tell them that there is no crime, no terrorism, no stupid act without a response from the Iranian people,” Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said during a speech at the ceremony broadcast by Iranian state television.
