The North Macedonia team qualified for the first time in their history to a major tournament and reserved their seat at Euro 2020 by winning 1-0 in the final play-off at the expense of Georgia.

A match in which both sides did not qualify beforehand for any major competition, the team that was affiliated with the former Yugoslavia until 1992 had not come close to qualifying for the World Cup or the European Championship, the same goes for Georgia, which was affiliated with the Soviet Union until 1990.

A historic classification came with the feet of veteran captain Goran Pandev (37 years old) -activators of Genoa, Inter and Lazio- after a triple pass inside the rival penalty area, when Igor Nstrowski passed, who deposited him in the net in the minute 56.

Pandev has already indicated his intention to retire after the end of the current season, and participating in Euro 2020 will be the best finish of his long career.

Macedonia qualified through the European Nations League supplement after participating in the fourth classification of the 2018-19 edition and occupying the top of the fourth group classification.

Macedonia benefited from one-match play-off matches, beating Bosnia and Herzegovina, then Georgia, 2-1, in the final stage, due to the Corona virus outbreak, after it was scheduled to be played on a system back and forth.

Macedonia will be in Group C of the final phase of Euro 2020, with the Netherlands, Ukraine and Austria.

Therefore, Euro 2020 will include two teams that did not pre-qualify for the competition, namely North Macedonia and Finland.

Six teams compete for the last three seats and the matches are as follows: Hungary and Iceland, Northern Ireland and Slovakia, Serbia and Scotland.
