Liverpool legend Jimmy Carger believes that the presence of Diogo Jota in the Reds’ main attack will ease the pressure on Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, noting that Roberto Firmino is having a hard time and deserves to be excluded from the formation.
The brilliance of Jota, who recently joined Liverpool, was matched by a weak appearance from Roberto Firmino from the start of the season, in light of the continued brilliance of Salah and Mane.
“Firmino is not in good shape this season, and I don’t think he was in good shape last season despite Liverpool winning the league,” Carragher said in remarks featured by Talk Sport.
“When you win the league and you win games every week, most people definitely don’t realize that,” he added.
He continued: “If Klopp puts a top scorer like Jota in his offensive formation, he will have 3 players who can score goals, and that will take the pressure off Salah and Mani.”
Brazilian Firmino has only scored one goal this season, while Portuguese Jota has scored seven goals.
While Salah, the star of the Egyptian national team, scored 10 goals for the Reds this season, compared to 5 for the Senegalese mane.
Liverpool are starring locally and in Europe as the team is at the top of its group in the Champions League, 5 points ahead of its closest supporters.
In the league, it ranks third, one point behind leaders Leicester City.
The next round of the English Premier League after the international break will see Liverpool take on Leicester at home in the fight for the lead.
