Erekat was transferred about 20 days ago from his home in Jericho to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, after his health deteriorated, after his infection with the Coronavirus, and his condition was classified as critical, after the cessation of vital functions of the lung , where he was placed in a cougar device, which is an external respirator, and remained in this case, until his death was announced Tuesday.

Who is Saeb Erekat?

Dr. Saeb Muhammad Salih Erekat was born on April 28, 1955 in the town of Abu Dis, east of occupied Jerusalem, and was known as the main Palestinian negotiator since 1996, for his participation in the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, and finally he held the position of Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Organization for the Liberation of Palestine.

Saeb Erekat traveled to the United States at age seventeen, then earned a degree from the University of San Francisco in the United States and the University of Bradford in Great Britain, from which he obtained a doctorate in peace studies.

He obtained US citizenship, then worked as a professor of political science at An-Najah National University in Nablus, the oldest and largest Palestinian university, and worked as a journalist for the Palestinian newspaper Al-Quds for 12 years.
