Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said his team’s defensive errors were “unforgivable” in the first half during a 2-1 loss at Turkey’s Basaksehir Stadium in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
United trailed in the 12th minute when Eden Fisca sent a pass to Demba Ba, who was in a private position from midfield and ran to shake the net from goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
The Turkish side doubled their lead in the first half when Juan Mata lost the ball and Ba passed it to Fiska to get into the net.
Solskjaer told reporters: “On the first goal we sent a short pass from a corner kick and we forgot about the striker in front of him. This is unforgivable … We are not doing our duty, and this is my responsibility.”

He continued: “We don’t see goals like these at this level, you shouldn’t shake the net so easily. When that happens, the process of winning matches becomes much more difficult.”
The loss to Başak Shahr came after a 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the league, which raised speculation about Solskjaer’s future, but the Norwegian manager stressed that now is not the time to panic.
He added: “It’s too early. Opinions are there all the time. We have to stay strong.”
United will visit Everton in the league on Saturday.
