Alexandria – Mohamed Amer:

Activists on the social networking site “Facebook” circulated videos and images showing what is known as “high-rise water” on Wednesday on the sea coast in the Agami region.

The emergence of “torrential water” coincided with the wave of bad weather that hit the neighborhoods of Alexandria this morning, accompanied by heavy rains, westerly winds and a marked drop in temperatures.

The meteorological agency had posted videos on its official website showing a moment of “torrential water” in Alexandria, indicating that it was the torrential water that caused the torrential rains.

The Meteorological Authority stated that rushing water is a natural phenomenon that often involves cold air passing over warm water, resulting in a rotating column of air and water-saturated fog.

The authority added that the water column is less dense than a hurricane, noting that water from the lake or sea water is being drawn down to the base of the rotating column, and some water columns cause strong winds, which can cause damage. to ships, but others are not harmful.

Today’s heavy rains caused water to accumulate on several streets, including the Corniche and Abu Qir roads, causing traffic confusion that lasted for about two hours.

The Alexandria Sewer Company paid 73 cars to suck rainwater accumulations from streets and squares, while two “torrents” were pushed into the western and eastern regions of the city.
