Sudan’s Irrigation Ministry demanded the need to abandon the former “unproductive” method of negotiating the Renaissance dam crisis and change it to other more effective approaches.

According to a statement released on Sunday, the Sudanese ministry proposed that African Union experts be given a greater role to facilitate bridging the gap with Egypt and Ethiopia in the Renaissance dam negotiations.

Sudan’s Irrigation Ministry also suggested establishing a specific timeline for the negotiation process in the Renaissance dam crisis and a clear list of results to be presented to the AU Council.

Today, he resumed the negotiations for the filling and operation of the Great Renaissance Dam of Ethiopia between the ministers of irrigation and water of the three countries, as agreed in the joint meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs and water in their meeting of the past Tuesday, chaired by Guy Pandora, Minister of International Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, president of the current session of the African Union.

The Sudanese News Agency cited a statement from the Ministry of Irrigation and Water in Sudan on Saturday, in which the three countries agreed to hold a follow-up meeting to which Sudan calls as soon as possible to present a report to the presidency of the Union.
