Mohamed Osama, the Zamalek club doctor, revealed the magnitude of the injuries suffered by Mahmoud Hamdi Al-Wansh and Abdullah Jumaa on the last day of the Egyptian League.
Al-Winch and Juma were substituted between halves of Ismaili’s match, which ended in Zamalek’s victory (3-1), to take the Whites to second place in the competition that Al-Ahly crowned.
“Abdullah Jumaa felt a slight background tension, and we prefer not to risk it because we will play an important match,” Osama said in televised remarks on “Zamalek” channel after the match.
He added: “We decided to replace Jumah between the two halves of the match so as not to risk him, but I followed the player’s condition after the end of the match and I see things are fine.”
He continued: “Mahmoud Hamdi Al-Wensh suffered a bruise on his knee and the player insisted on completing the match, but I insisted on replacing him.”
He explained: “The swelling in the knee of the winch is normal. There is a stump in the tendon of the soap bone, and tomorrow (Tuesday) the player will undergo radiation to determine the size of his injury.”
The Zamalek doctor went on to talk about the position of Mahmoud Alaa, the team’s defender, saying: “The player suffers from pain in the external ligament and was subjected to four daily sessions in Morocco.”
He stressed that “we have benefited from the postponement of the confrontation with hope and there is an 80% improvement in the condition of Mahmoud Alaa.”
He continued: “Hazem Imam is suffering from a strained front muscle, and we also benefit from the postponement of his response, and the player is preparing to catch up with Al-Raja.”
The Zamalek doctor revealed the reason for Yusef Obama’s absence to face Al Ismaily, saying: “He felt mild pain in his knee during training, and we refuse to risk it in the match for our future commitments.”
Zamalek is reportedly preparing to face Raja next Saturday in the second leg of the African Champions League semi-final, after coming back with a precious victory in the first leg in Casablanca (1-0).
