Please: we do not rely on “Zamalek’s statements” for postponement

Said Wahbi, official spokesman for the Moroccan club Raja, confirmed that his club did not rely on letters or statements from Zamalek officials when it asked to postpone the two teams’ match in the African Champions League.

Wehbe told fans of the third Ontime Sports program that the decision made by the African Football Confederation, “enough”, was humanitarian of the first degree.

Wehbe said: “The decision made by the African Union to postpone the match against Zamalek is 100% correct. Now we have the whole team, whether they are players, administrators or medical devices, in quarantine.”

He continued: “Postponing the confrontation was a first-rate humanitarian act. The most important thing now is the health of the players, their return to their families and children, and then talking about football.”

He added: “Our failure to travel to Cairo was for compelling reasons, not in our hands. There was an emergency due to the injury of a large number of players.”

He explained: “It was Faouzi Lakjaa, president of the Moroccan Federation, who contacted us, and then the African Union, to postpone the match.”

He added: “We follow the statements of Zamalek officials on social media, but our official conversation was only with KAF, and what was not the case was humanitarian support.”

He concluded: “We did not rely on any letter from Zamalek or anything like that. We have presented official documents from the Moroccan authorities and therefore our position was correct.”
