The African Football Confederation announced the postponement of Zamalek and Al-Raja’s match, in an official statement.
“CAF” revealed that November 1 was set as the new date for the second leg of the semifinals of the African Champions League in Egypt.
The decision of the African Football Confederation came in the context of the outbreak of the Corona virus in the Raja team, and the announcement of 8 cases among the players.
On the other hand, Al-Ahly’s match with Wydad Casablanca will be played on Friday night.
The text of the CAF declaration is as follows:
On Tuesday, Al-Raja Club was informed that it had been quarantined by the Moroccan Ministry of Health due to the infection of 8 players with the Corona virus, and we received the decision of the Moroccan authorities to prevent them from traveling and the impossibility of traveling of the team until October 27.
“As a result, the Al-Raja club will not be able to travel to Egypt to compete in the second leg of the African Champions League semi-final, which was scheduled for the 24th.”
“In view of this situation and to protect the integrity of the competition and promote the spirit of solidarity, the CAF agreed to postpone the second leg until November 1.”
“The Al-Ahly and Wydad match will take place on Friday, while the final, on November 6, is as is.”
For CAF, the health of the players is a categorical necessity in accordance with the directives of the health committee, which provide guarantees for the health and safety of the players and facilitate the return to the game by holding matches.
Zamalek had beaten Raja in Casablanca 1-0 in the first leg of the semifinals.
Zamalek only need to draw to qualify for the final of the CAF Champions League.
