The committee that oversees debates in the U.S. presidential election said that in the last debate to take place Thursday between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden, the loudspeaker will be turned off to allow each candidate to speak for a time without being interrupted by the other.

The Presidential Debating Committee, which sponsors the televised debate in Nashville, said the changes were necessary after the first debate between the two candidates on Sept. 29.

“We realize after discussions with the two campaigns that neither of them can be completely satisfied with the procedures announced today,” the committee said in a statement.

“We are satisfied that these measures strike the right balance and are in the interest of the American people for whom these discussions are taking place,” he added.

The organizers of the debate will grant each candidate two uninterrupted minutes at the beginning of each part of the debate, of up to 15 minutes each.

“The only candidate who will open his speaker during the two-minute periods is the candidate who has the floor according to the rules,” the committee said.
