For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin thanked President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for His Excellency’s support of this nomination and the government and the Central Bank of Egypt. In this role, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin will represent Egypt and the Arab group on the IMF board of directors.

Mohieddin stressed that his work will focus on supporting Arab countries to achieve their economic and development goals through their financial and monetary policies, especially as this period is witnessing great challenges in dealing with the consequences of the pandemic. de Corona and its effects on economic conditions, especially the fall in growth rates, employment and the increase in debt.

He added that work will also be done to stimulate private investment to participate in growth, and emphasize the importance of balanced policies to achieve development objectives, especially the fight against poverty, the generation of job opportunities, and justice in income distribution. , supporting the environment and confronting climate change.

Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin held multiple international positions, the most recent of which was his previous job at the World Bank, as Senior Vice President of the World Bank Group for Sustainable Development, United Nations Relations and Partnerships; After that, he assumed his current position as Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Financing Sustainable Development.

Egypt retained this position by electing Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin to represent Egypt and the Arab countries in the IMF, replacing Dr. Hazem Al-Beblawy, former Prime Minister, whose term expires at the end of the current Board session at the end of this month.
