Books – Ayman Gilberto:

The Egyptian soccer posts Al-Ahly and Zamalek achieved positive results during the round trip matches of the semi-final of the African Champions League for the 2019/2020 edition.

Al-Ahly beat Moroccan Wydad 2-0, while Zamalek defeated their counterpart Raja 1-0.

Al-Ahly is preparing to host Wydad at Cairo Stadium on October 23 in the second leg, while Zamalek will host his counterpart Raja on October 24.

In the last hours, several social networking sites witnessed the controversy over the possible suspension of any Al-Ahly and Zamalek player and the possibility of not being in the final match due to the accumulation of yellow cards.

The African Football Confederation (CAF) has set November 6 as the date for the final match, as it will be played in Egypt if Al-Ahly and Zamalek qualify “together or either of them” for the final match, while will dispute in Morocco if it is between Wydad and Raja.

Previously, “CAF” addressed the different federations with amendments to the list of competitions on August 8, 2019, as follows:

  • Players will be suspended after receiving 3 yellow cards, not 2.
  • Yellow cards that do not result in a penalty will be lifted after the group stage.
  • There will be penalties if players repeatedly violate one red card and three yellow cards or two expulsions.
  • A player who has 3 red cards or 9 yellow cards means that this player will be suspended for the duration of the tournament.

According to the CAF speech, all yellow cards obtained by any player prior to their participation in the quarterfinal phase of the tournament have been eliminated.

Ahly

When reviewing the Al-Ahly club roster position through the match report from the quarterfinals on the official “CAF” website, there are no players scheduled to be present on the team roster for Wydad’s match in the semi-final second leg with two yellow cards.

In the first leg of the quarterfinals, Mahmoud Metwally received a yellow card, and in the second leg Ahmed Fathy received a yellow card.

The first leg of the semi-final saw the trio Ayman Ashraf, Aliou Diang and Geraldo receive yellow cards, the first for all players during that stage.

As for the position of Mohamed El-Shenawy, the team’s goalkeeper, according to the official Wydad and Al-Ahly match report on the “CAF” website, the player did not receive any special yellow cards after he was awarded a penalty in the first half.

Zamalek

The trio Muhammad Abu Jabal, Tariq Hamed and Mustafa Muhammad obtained two yellow cards in the knockout rounds before the second leg against Raja, and therefore any player of them receives a yellow card in the next match, they will be denied participation in the final if Zamalek qualifies.

Tariq Hamed got the first yellow card against Esperance of Tunisia in the first leg of the quarter-finals, and in the second leg he got the second card.

As for Mohamed Abu Jabal and Mustafa Mohamed, each of them won the first card in the match against Esperance in the quarter-final second leg, and they got the second card against Raja in the semi-final first leg.

Mahmoud Alaa and Ferjani Sassi each have a yellow card, according to the report of Zamalek’s matches since the quarterfinals of the tournament on the official “CAF” website.
