In a terrifying incident that sparked outrage in India, an elderly man was rescued in critical condition, in Salem, Tamil Nadu state, after spending a full night in the hospital morgue, after it was believed that had died.
For the past two months, Balasubramaniyam Kumar has been suffering from aging-related illnesses and has been living with his younger brother Sarvanan, 70, in the village of Kandhambati in the Salem district.
According to police officers, when Sarphanan tried to wake up his older brother Kumar on Monday night, he did not respond despite several attempts, leading him to believe that his brother, who was ill and suffering from seizures, had died.
Sarfanan asked a funeral service company to provide him with a freezer box for the bodies and called several relatives to inform them of the last rites planned for the following day.
However, when employees of the funeral service company came to retrieve the box on Tuesday, they were surprised by the movement of Kumar’s hand.
And the staff immediately sounded an alarm to help the man, and informed the police, who in turn immediately transferred Kumar to hospital, according to the “Hindustan Times” newspaper.
And the Indian television network “NDTV” published images of Kumar as he lay inside the box, waking up gasping, breathing heavily and moving his eyes and hands.
“It appears that Kumar’s brother did not intend to do this,” the police officer said, and an investigation was opened into the case on charges of negligence and endangering a person’s life.
