Armenia and Azerbaijan accused each other of violating the armistice and bombing residential areas, while fighting continued in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Azerbaijan said an Armenian missile killed at least 13 people and wounded 40 others in Ganja, the country’s second-largest city away from the disputed region.
A ballistic missile was reportedly fired in the early hours of Saturday.
Armenia denied carrying out the attack and accused Azerbaijan of bombing populated areas within Nagorno Karabakh, including the main city of Stepanakert and Khankendi.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry said that three civilians were injured by the Azerbaijani fire, adding that several Azerbaijani drones flew over residential communities in Armenia, attacking military installations and inflicting damage to infrastructure.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the Armenian missile strikes in the cities of Ganja and Mingasvir in the early hours of Saturday as a “war crime” and “perfidious attacks”. He said that Azerbaijan would take revenge on civilian casualties on the battlefield.
Aliyev said in a televised speech on Saturday: “We have not fought or waged a war against civilians, and we never will. We are not Armenians.”
He said that Azerbaijan has one goal, which is to liberate its occupied lands. He added: “If they don’t leave our lands of their own free will, we will hunt them down like dogs.
The conflict between the two countries has claimed hundreds of lives since its outbreak on September 27, amid indications of the collapse of the ceasefire, which was reached under the auspices of Russia about a week ago, to allow the parties to exchange prisoners and corpses.
Aliyev said that if the international community does not hold Armenia responsible for the attacks on Azerbaijani civilians, Azerbaijan will punish “criminal” Armenian political and military leaders.
Addressing the Armenian leaders, the Azerbaijani president said: “Insulting the Azerbaijani people will cost them a very high price.”
Aliyev also said that Azerbaijan does not want bloodshed and is ready to stop hostilities in Nagorno Karabakh if Armenia withdraws its armed forces from Azerbaijani lands.
The Azerbaijani president said his army had captured the city of “Fuzuli” on the outskirts of Nagorno Karabakh, which had been under the control of Armenian forces for almost three decades.
Aliyev added that other towns have been recovered, including the administrative center of Fuzuli district and the villages of Gokamdali, Shimane, Kovarli, Berahmdali, Musabaili, Iskeli and Dadali.
