A source announced that the attacker, suspected of beheading a French teacher, showed his students caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, an 18-year-old of Chechen origin.

The attack took place on Friday afternoon near a secondary school, where the teacher worked in Conflans Saint-Honorine, about 30 km northwest of Paris.

Police said the victim was a history teacher who recently showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a class as part of a discussion on freedom of expression, followed by complaints from some families.

A judicial source told Agence France-Presse that five other people were arrested in connection with the attack, including the father of a student at the school where the victim was studying, bringing the total number of detainees to nine.

According to the source, who requested anonymity, the arrested parents expressed their opposition to the teacher’s decision to show the fees.

The other three people arrested for questioning belong to the suspect’s unfamiliar background. And the four who were detained by relatives.

The attack occurred at a time when the trial sessions of the alleged accomplices of the perpetrators of the attack that targeted the offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in January 2015, which had published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, were continuing, unleashing a wave of anger in the Islamic world.
