The General Department of Epidemiology and Surveillance of the Ministry of Health and Population issued a new definition for the diagnosis of suspected and infected cases of the emerging coronavirus.
The new definition divided coronavirus cases into suspected cases, potentially infected cases, and confirmed infection.
The General Department of Epidemiology and Surveillance stated, in its publication, that the suspected case is any person who suffers from one or more of the following symptoms, as issued by the department:
Severe respiratory symptoms such as coughing and shortness of breath.
A high temperature of more than 38 degrees.
A sudden loss of smell and taste.
It comes with or without any of the accompanying and non-specific symptoms of a particular illness, such as vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, and a sore throat.
The administration confirmed that the suspected case includes a patient who is detained with severe acute respiratory diseases and suffering from a high fever of more than 38 degrees and cough, with no other causes, during the last 10 days from the date the symptoms appeared.
As for the possible cases, it is a suspected case with any of the following conditions present within 14 days prior to the appearance of symptoms: –
Direct contact of a possible or laboratory-confirmed case with CRP with the Coronavirus.
– Associated with a cluster of suspected cases with severe respiratory symptoms, and one of them was confirmed with “PCR”.
A worker or frequent visitor to places that provide medical care, who have been reported to have confirmed cases of the new Corona infection.
– Contacts of a case of death who presented acute respiratory symptoms before death.
The probable condition also includes any suspected condition for which the following diagnostic features apply:
The presence of a chest CT scan (if a normal chest X-ray is not available) with diagnostic features for Corona infection.
– A blood test showing the probable characteristics of corona infection, “a normal or low white blood cell count with low lymphocytes.”
The definition clarified that the confirmed case is a suspected or potential case that was laboratory confirmed as infected with a pcr test with the “Covid-19” infection.
