The first debate was a disappointment for many

US President Donald Trump has refused to participate in a remote televised debate with his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.

Earlier, the commission in charge of organizing the debate, scheduled in Miami for October 15, announced that it would take place remotely.

The decision was made in the immediate aftermath of Trump’s infection with the Covid-19 disease last week. The president is currently showing no symptoms, but several White House employees have recently been infected with the coronavirus, which causes the disease.

Trump said the committee’s decision was aimed at “protecting” his rival, Joe Biden, whose campaign has said his candidate will participate in the debate, and that he “hopes to speak to the American people directly.”
