The announcement by the Football Association of the opening of the first registration period until November 4 raised doubts about the position of Ahmed Fathy, Al-Ahly player, to participate in the final of the African Champions League scheduled for on the 6th of the same month, if the red team qualifies.
Walid Al-Attar, executive director of the Egyptian Football Association, revealed that it is related to the end of the season and that it is scheduled to end on October 30.
The semi-finals of the CAF Champions League will be played on October 17 and 24, while the final will be played on November 6.
Al-Attar said in statements to FilGoal.com “These are the rules of the International Federation (FIFA). A player’s contract ends at the end of the season.”
“The season ends with the end of league competition, and he is scheduled to play the final games on October 30,” Al-Attar revealed.
Regarding Ahmed Fathi’s position, he explained: “The matter is not related to a specific player, but any player whose contract with his club expires will be free at the end of the league on October 30.”
“Thus, even if the registration deadline is met, no player may participate in a continental tournament after that date, because it will automatically leave the local registry,” he added.
Al-Attar completed his statements: “It is related to the regulations of the International Federation. The season ends with the end of the league.”
