The former Swiss Al-Ahly coach spoke for the first time about his departure from the Red Castle and his time at the club.
Fyler, who is a guest on the Swiss network SRF, described the reasons for his departure as “very simple.”
He explained: “The Corona virus has also found a way to Cairo, and I have only seen my family once since February, specifically when I came to Switzerland on a private plane in June.”
He continued: “The decision was difficult and I wanted to finish the season because we did a good job all this time.”
Fyler referred to “some stressful circumstances” during his time at Al-Ahly, “The club is incredibly big,” he said. “He had no privacy in Egypt.”
He went on to say, “I couldn’t eat outside my house.”
“Even if Fyler wanted to go to the airport to pick up his family, he would have to dress up,” the Swiss network wrote. Then the coach said, “Then they will recognize me.”
On the difference of cultures, “You can’t imagine it if you didn’t try it yourself. It was so exhausting,” Fyler said.
The difference in cultures and climate made the conversation with Weiler refer to what happened at the Al-Ahly meeting in front of the Sudanese Crescent in Sudan.
“I don’t want to remember what happened at all,” Fyler said at first.
He then listed the details, saying: “We were very afraid for our lives. We were playing a decisive match to qualify and we needed a draw and advanced 1-0 and after an hour of play the fans stormed the stadium for the decision to grant us a goal kick”.
He continued: “We found a lot of things flying towards us from the stands, beyond belief.”
And about the presence of security forces with Al-Ahly’s team inside the dressing rooms after the meeting, “We were protected from a lot of policemen. I saw them carrying huge rifles that I hadn’t even seen in war movies,” Fyler said.
