Pyramids keep chasing Zamalek with three in the clearing

Pyramids continued their winning streak in the Egyptian Premier League championship after defeating Egypt Al-Maqsah (3-2), in the match that took place on Saturday night at El Mokawloon Stadium, in the 31st week of competition.

Pyramids achieved their fifth consecutive victory in the competition, raising their score to 60 points in third place, to continue to chase second-placed Zamalek with 64 points, knowing that White will have three points deducted at the end of the season.

On the other hand, Egypt’s punt received its second consecutive defeat, to freeze its score at 40 points in seventh place in the standings.

Pyramids managed to open the scoring for Ghanaian star John Antwi in the 30th minute of the game, after the player took advantage of a pass to the ground from his Burkinabe colleague Eric Traore to easily deposit it into the empty net.

The guests doubled the score in the 43rd minute, after Abdullah Al-Saeed passed the ball to Mohamed Farouk inside the penalty area, with the latter depositing it with his left foot at the punt window after the ball passed between the feet of goalkeeper Mahmoud Hamdi.

In the 54th minute, Egypt’s clearance managed to reduce the difference of a penalty that was counted by the referee after resorting to video technology.

Abdullah Al-Saeed again extended the difference to Pyramids after scoring the third goal in the 58th minute, as the international star took advantage of a false pass from goalkeeper Mahmoud Hamdy, to hit the ball with his head and went to the net.

In the 68th minute, Egypt’s punt scored Mahdi Suleiman’s second goal in the net through Ahmed Mohsen after a free kick by Mido Jaber, and the referee had to resort to video technology, which demonstrated the correction of the goal and the non-infiltration of the player.
