The White House has indicated that the president of the United States, Donald Trump, suffers from mild symptoms of the Covid-19 disease, after he and his wife Melania tested positive for the Corona virus.
The White House chief of staff said the president was “doing his job” and was “in a good mood,” adding that he expected a speedy recovery.
This comes almost a month before Trump runs the presidential race against his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.
On Friday, it was confirmed that Biden and his wife had not been infected with the virus.
Biden wrote on Twitter after announcing the result: “I hope this serves as a reminder … Put on masks, observe the rules of social distancing and wash your hands.”
No other member of Trump’s close family has been infected with the virus.
Officials said that everyone who had been in contact with the president in recent days was being tracked.
On Friday, they added, Trump was looking at how he might address the nation or communicate with the American people.
On Thursday, the couple announced they intend to undergo self-isolation measures after Hope Hicks, a prominent Trump aide, tested positive for the virus, and the two soon learned that her results were also positive.
But there was criticism of Trump’s decision to attend a fundraising event attended by dozens of people in New Jersey on Thursday, apparently after officials had already learned of Hicks’ symptoms.
Hicks, 31, was with Trump on Air Force One when he addressed the first televised presidential debate with Biden in Ohio on Tuesday. Some members of the Trump family who attended the debate appeared without masks.
Trump used to refuse to wear a face mask and was often seen without adhering to social distancing rules with his helpers or others during official events.
