President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi delivered a televised address at the United Nations Biodiversity Summit.

In his speech, Sisi said today: Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, Volkan Bozkir, President of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Munir Akram, President of the Economic and Social Council, I am pleased to join you today at this summit that coincides with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, Faced with an exceptional current situation represented in the spread of the new Corona virus and its economic and social consequences, with the growing awareness of the seriousness of the emerging challenges and the intertwining of its effects, to which is added the environmental problem and its unpublished implications, which show the veracity of the vision of the international community by setting its sights on the principle of preservation of nature and biodiversity as one of the Priorities of the International cooperation.

The President added: From this point of view, the constant decline of biological diversity and the accelerated rate of loss of natural resources on the planet as a result of human intervention in natural life and vital systems, it is imperative that we advance in a more coordinated and effective way in the face of these developments that threaten all our countries, and deepen The differences between developing and developed countries limit our ability to achieve the sustainable development goals of our peoples, especially in developing and least developed countries , especially if we add to this the phenomenon of climate change, and the threat that is closely related to the loss of biological diversity.

Al-Sisi continued: And then we are faced with a real test in our relationship with nature that forces us to live in harmony with it, which represents the essence of our common purpose in linking biodiversity and achieving sustainable development, and in the implementation of this vision, and in order to overcome the deficiencies in the international effort to fulfill the objectives of the Convention. The United Nations on Biodiversity and the subsequent targets that we agreed to internationally to halt the current decline in biodiversity, the Fourteenth Conference of the Parties in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2012 witnessed the launch of a negotiation process for the global framework of post-2020 biodiversity that seeks to achieve ambitious targets supported by means of implementation AND its mechanisms.
