Nawaf Al-Ahmad is sworn in as Emir of Kuwait today

Today Wednesday, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is sworn in as Emir of Kuwait before the National Assembly, succeeding Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died on Tuesday at the age of 91 years.

And the Kuwait Council of Ministers declared Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Emir of the country after Sheikh Sabah’s death, and declared public mourning in Kuwait for forty days.

The new Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, is considered one of the most prominent figures in the modern history of Kuwait as he had a great role in establishing the Ministry of the Interior in its modern form and contributed to the development of the Hawalli Governorate when he assumed his responsibilities.

Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is the sixth son of Kuwait’s 10th ruler, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, who ruled Kuwait between 1921 and 1950.

Sheikh Nawwaf was born on June 25, 1937 in Kuwait City, and studied in the various schools in Kuwait, including Sharqiya and Mubarakiya, and continued his studies in various places in the country.

Sheikh Nawwaf began his political career after assuming the responsibilities of the Hawalli governorate and managed to transform the governorate, which was a village, into a civilized city full of commercial and economic activity.

He is considered the true founder of the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry in its modern form, assuming its reins for two terms, the first from March 1978 to January 1988 and the second from 2003 to February 2006.

Following the formation of the first Kuwaiti government after the 1991 liberation war, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad was assigned the portfolio of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and later assumed the post of deputy chief of the National Guard on October 16, 1994.

In 2003, an Amiri decree was issued appointing Sheikh Nawwaf as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and then another decree was issued on February 7, 2006 recommending him as Crown Prince.

February 20, 2006 was the day the Kuwait National Assembly pledged allegiance to Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, officially the Crown Prince.
