Drugs are behind the exclusion of dozens of candidates for the Egyptian Parliament, including women

The medical committees of several Egyptian provinces revealed positive tests of dozens of candidates for the elections to the House of Representatives, which will be held in October and November, and confirmed their drug use.

Among the excluded candidates, women were found to use drugs.

In Dakahlia governorate, the medical committee for the medical examination of the candidates sent a statement that 17 candidates were excluded from the applicants with their documents to the Judicial Committee, after they were shown to be positive for drug use, including 3 women.

Dr. Saad Makki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in the governorate, presented an official memorandum to the adviser, the head of the South Mansura Court of First Instance and the supervisor of the elections, to exclude these candidates from the nomination lists to be announced on Sunday after the bid door closed on Saturday.

In Al-Sharqiyah governorate, it was decided to exclude 6 candidates for proven drug use, as the results of their tests were positive.

In Qalyubia, Dr. Safaa Faraj Al-Ashqar, Director General of the Governorate Medical Commission, confirmed the positive of 3 potential parliamentarians for drug use.

The National Electoral Authority announced at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday that it would close the door to the candidacy for the elections to the House of Representatives in 2021.

The authority is reviewing candidate jobs before announcing initial lists of accepted candidate names on Sunday.

The elections will be held in two stages, the first on October 24 and 25, and in the event of a tiebreaker on November 23 and 24, like the second phase, it will take place on November 7 and 8.

The second round will be on December 7 and 8, and the results will be announced no later than Monday, December 14.
