Dr. Ahmed Aziz, president of the University of Sohag, said that the university will send, tomorrow Saturday morning, a committee that includes many professors and specialists from the university to the site of the ignition of a “water well” in the back part of the desert from the village of “Beit Khallaf” in the Jarja Center district, to conduct the necessary studies, learn the truth of the matter and prepare a detailed report. About it.
Aziz explained -in statements today- that the university had previously carried out studies in the region 5 years ago, as studies indicated that there is expected to be a reservoir of natural gas at great depths in the region, noting that the limestone in the region of West Gerga is fractured and found in it. Aspirated, and the gas resulting from drilling the well is expected to connect to a deep underground tank, and with the drilling pressure of the well, the gas began to leak out of the cracks and holes until it reached the well site.
A grower in the area had dug a water well and pushed a pipe to a depth of 200 meters to pump artesian water from the underground water well in the area. Three days ago, the well water turned into “sparkling” water that gushed out of the pipe at a height of 7 meters, after which the gas relief began to flow. From the mouth of the pipe, forcing the owner of the well to close it, and yesterday afternoon the well caught fire and the flames rose as a result of the spread of fire from a stove for workers who were preparing tea near the well, and the flames rose in the area for several meters without injury, and workers in the area were unable to put it out. The civil protection forces were summoned, security and cordon-off were made around the area, and the well continued to burn.
